Located in the desert of Ladakh, the trek will take you through canyons, passes and arid terrain of the north. You will cross numerous villages that will give an insight into Ladakhi culture, offering views of Stock Kangri and Zanskar mountain. This one is reserved for experienced trekkers as the route takes you through steep ascents, difficult descents and difficult passes.

 

Route: Leh – Zingchen – Ganda La Base – Ganda La – Shingo – Sara – Markha – Thachungtse – Nimaling –

Nimaling – Kongmaru La (17,060 ft.) – Shangsumdo – Leh

Itinerary:

 

Day 1: Arrive in Leh

Arrive at Leh today. The flight journey to Leh is absolutely beautiful as it gives a bird’s eye view of snow-clad peaks. Today we spend the day at Leh, just relaxing so that our bodies can get acclimatized to sudden change in altitude.

 

Day 2: Acclamitization Day

We roam around Leh, you can do some sightseeing and walk around. This day is for rest, relaxation and further acclimatization.

 

Day 3: Leh – Zingchen – Ganda La Base

In the wee hours of the morning, we will leave for Zingchen, a lush green valley. Here, we will see the Rumbak River flowing to meet River Indus. From here, we will head to Hemis National Park and hope to spot wildlife typical to Ladakh. This will include leopard, lynx, Bharal, Ladakh Urial and Tibetan wolf to name a few. From here, we head to the base of Ganda La from where you can see Stok range.

 

Day 4: Ganda La Base – Ganda La – Shingo

We will begin climbing towards Ganda La for 2 hours, a route dotted with chortens. From here, you will see Zanskar range. We begin climbing down and after 5 hours, reach Shingo where we camp for the night.

 

Day 5: Shingo – Sara

This 5-hour trek will first take us through a spectacular gorge to Skiu. With the Markha river flowing below, we will follow it till we arrive Sara. The route by the river will criss-cross the river and involve a lot of crossing and climbing. Stay the night at Sara.

 

Day 6: Sara – Markha

After a 4 hour climb, we will reach Markha, a village with only 20 houses. We will visit a monastery and an old fort and come back to campsite by afternoon.

 

Day 7: Markha – Thachungtse

Today the trail will go through ruined castle, monastery of techa that is located on a cliff about Markha. We then cross a few more village, go across a stream and reach Umlung Village. From here, we can see clear views of Mt. Kang Yatse which will remain in sight till Kongmaru La. We will finally reach Thachungtse , we will camp overnight.

 

Day 8: Thachungtse – Nimaling

We will head to the plateau of Nimaling, which is the highest camp on this trek. From here, enjoy views of Kang Yatse. We stay overnight at Nimaling.

 

Day 9: Nimaling – Kongmaru La (17,060 ft.) – Shangsumdo

Today we will head to Kongmaru La which will give views of Indus Valley and Ladakh range. From here, we will descend to Shang Gorge, then cross the sour spring, Chuksurmo. Once we reach Shangsumdo, we will stay the night.

 

Day 10: Shangsumdo – Leh

Head to Leh. Trip ends here.
